CBC to Offer Additional $2500 to Academic Challenge Scholarship Recipients

Central Baptist College Board of Trustees approved, effective immediately, that the institution will make up the $2,500 annual shortfall the Academic Challenge Scholarship does not cover. In March of this year, the Legislature trimmed the amount of the award for incoming freshman from $4,500 to $2,000 leaving many students and families having to pay the unexpected difference.

The scholarship will be available to first time incoming freshmen for the 2013-2014 academic year who have qualified for the Academic Challenge Scholarship.

According to CBC President Terry Kimbrow, “A large percentage of our students are from Arkansas and many of them have been counting on this scholarship to help fund their higher education. I appreciate our board of trustees for responding to this critical need.”

The Arkansas Department of Higher Education recently notified 10,000 high school students that they have been awarded the $2,000 Academic Challenge Scholarship. Kimbrow stated, “Since the inception of the Arkansas Academic Scholarship, it has helped lighten the financial burden on Arkansas’ families, many of which want to attend a private college. We work hard at CBC to make it possible for any qualified student to attend the institution.”

In order for students to receive the additional $2,500 award, they must meet the Academic Challenge Scholarship guidelines and submit their application to the Department of Higher Education by June 1.
