Harding University to host Dead Sea Scrolls scholar

Harding University will be hosting a lecture series by Dr. Lawrence H. Schiffman on Wednesday, Nov. 12.

Schiffman is the Judge Abraham Lieberman Professor of Hebrew and Judaic Studies at New York University and director of the Global Institute for Advanced Research in Jewish Studies. He is a specialist in the Dead Sea Scrolls, Judaism in late antiquity, the history of Jewish law, and Talmudic literature.

“I am thrilled that Harding is providing this forum and opportunity for our University community and statewide community to hear Dr. Schiffman speak on these topics he has spent a lifetime studying,” said Dr. Daniel Oden, assistant professor of Hebrew Bible at Harding.

Lectures will include topics such as “Messianism in Early Judaism” and “Biblical Texts and Interpretation in the Dead Sea Scrolls.” There will also be a brown-bag lunch and discussion for University faculty and other universities.

The lectures will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Cone Chapel and are free and open to the public. For more information, contact the College of Bible and Ministry at 501-279-4808.
