Williams Baptist College’s Felix Goodson Library will host an exhibit chronicling major historical events inArkansas between 1861 and 1865.  The display, entitled “Fought in Earnest: Civil War Arkansas,” will be presented from November 6 through December 2, during regular library hours.

The Arkansas History Commission holds various banners, drawings, original documents, photographs, books and other artifacts which will make up the display, offering a first-hand look at lives of Confederate andUnion soldiers, government officials and civilians.

“We wanted to develop several types of materials to commemorate the sesquicentennial of the Civil War in Arkansas,” said Dr. Lisa Speer, State Historian and the History Commission’s Director.  “I am very pleased that Williams is sharing this intimate glimpse into Arkansas’s role in the Civil War with their visitors and community.”

The exhibit was produced in part by a grant from theArkansas Natural and Cultural Resources Council, funded by the Arkansas Real Estate Transfer Tax.
