JBU Hosts “The Arties” Student Awards Show

The John Brown University Visual Arts Department will host the “Arties” on March 13 at 7 p.m. in the Berry Performing Arts Center.

The Arties is JBU’s annual Oscar-style awards show that celebrates student excellence in the arts with awards distributed by the Visual Arts Department, Music and Theatre Department, and Communication Department. Guest professional artists will judge the awards and the winners will receive cash prizes.

The nominees are:

Graphic Designer of the Year: Morgan Ankrom, Caleb Alba, Andrea Crouse and Kenny Crane.

Photographer of the Year: Susie Bailey, Kayley Phillips, Lexi Christensen and Erika Forney.

Illustrator of the Year: Hannah Newsom, Dana Zimmerman, Kenny Crane and Olivia Wheelock.

Fine Artist of the Year: Chloe Fennell, Shannon Henderson, Annee Hofstra and Hannah Rose McIntire.

Digital Illustrator of the Year: Gabrielle Bromling, Zack Brown, Sean Essary and Thomas Mulcahy.

Filmmaker of the Year: Matt Lang, Joseph Pelegreen, Romello Williams and Joel Nizza.

Rookie of the Year: Jake West, Corrie Merritt, Rachael Stark, Rolando Serrano and Caleb Crawford.


This year’s Arties ceremony theme is “Clue Murder Mystery.” Emceed by alumnus David Burney, six JBU student actors will play the roles of the six Clue characters and perform a drama from the Clue storyline in between each award.

JBU “paparazzi” will photograph attendees on the red carpet as they enter the building in their classy dinner party attire.

Hosted by the Visual Art Foundry, the event is free and open to the public.
