Lady Eagle Pair Collects AMC Softball Honors

In the second week of the season, Williams Baptist College’s Karisa Hendrix and Chelsea Sanders have swept the American Midwest Conference Softball Pitcher and Player of the Week honors. The duo helped Williams to a 7-1 week and is now 12-2 on the year.

A junior hurler from Cherokee Village, Ark., Karisa Hendrix was last year’s AMC Pitcher of the Year as a sophomore. Last week Hendrix scored six victories on the mound for the Eagles against just one extra inning loss. Hendrix allowed eight earned runs and 10 walks while throwing 40.1 innings. She also gave up just 3.7 hits per contest and fanned 53 batters. In her first game of the week Hendrix had 13 strikeouts against just three hits and in wins over Blue Mountain College and Southwestern Christian Hendrix shutout the competition 10-0 and 21-0, respectively.

Chelsea Sanders is a senior for the Eagles and played in all eight contests this week, posting a batting average of .407 with 11 hits in 27 at-bats. The catcher smacked three doubles and two homers as well as logging 11 RBIs for an average of 1.4 per contest. One of the homeruns was a grand slam. Behind the plate, Sanders caught Hendrix’s two shutouts with just a single error on the week. Sanders leads the team in RBIs this season and ranks No. 22 in the NAIA with 14 RBIs.

The Eagles are idle until Saturday when they hit the road to play Freed-Hardeman in a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
