National Affiliations

AICU is affiliated with the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities (NAICU) and the Council of Independent Colleges (CIC).

NAICU serves as a unified national voice of independent higher education. Since 1976, the association has represented private colleges and universities on policy issues with the federal government such as those affecting student aid, taxation and government regulation. NAICU staff members in Washington meet with lawmakers, track campus trends, conduct research, analyze higher education issues, publish information, coordinate state-level activities and advise members about legislative and regulatory developments with potential impact on their institutions.

Founded in 1956, CIC is an association of independent colleges and universities working together to support college and university leadership, advance institutional excellence and enhance private higher education’s contributions to society. CIC is not a lobbying organization but rather focuses on providing services to campus leaders as well as seminars, workshops and programs that assist institutions in improving educational programs, institutional visibility and administrative and financial performance.
